Foreign ministers and high-level representatives from the 183 Member States of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) issued an urgent call to the eight remaining States – China, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Egypt, India, Iran, Israel, Pakistan and the United States - to sign and ratify the CTBT, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 27 September 2013. Ratification by these eight countries is necessary for the Treaty's entry into force.
The mission is clear – make our common development sustainable, the Hungarian Foreign Minister told the United Nations General Assembly today, stressing a new agenda that makes societies, economies, the environment and partnerships serve generations to come.
A Hungarian delegation headed by the Minister of State for Energy Affairs Pál Kovács, comprising executives and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Development and the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) is attending the 57th Annual General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held September 16-20, 2013.
A high-level meeting focusing on nuclear security held under the aegis of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) began in Vienna on 1 July, with Hungarian Foreign Affairs Minister János Martonyi as Conference President.
The award was presented by Mr. János Martonyi Foreign Minister of Hungary, on behalf of Mr. János Áder, President of Hungary.
The Permanent Mission of Hungary organized a panel discussion about the nexus between water and energy on June 18th 2013. The seminar focused on linkages between energy and water.
The speakers included Kandeh Yumkella, Director General of UNIDO, Professor András Szöllösi-Nagy, rector of the UNESCO Institute of Water and Mr. Gábor Baranyai, deputy state secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On 10 July 2013 a new publication entitled “Instruments of a more peaceful world: Arms-control, disarmament and non-proliferation” was introduced by deputy state secretary and political director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Mr. Péter Sztáray at the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs.
At the request of the Government of Hungary, the IAEA agreed to conduct an IPPAS (International Physical Protection Advisory Service) mission to Hungary in May - June 2013.
