The EU achieved favourable outcome, not least also due to the close cooperation with the US and the Council of Europe throughout the Working Group on Cybercrime, between 17 and 21 January 2011.
Throughout negotiations with third countries and the UNODC Secretariat, the EU team were able to maintain the EU common framwork position that it cannot agree to a new UN Convention or other legal instrument at this point, but to promote the Budapest Convention as the legal framework of reference for fighting cybercrime at the global level.
