The Hungarian team also included Mr. Gyula Fichtinger, Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority and other senior officials. The consultations were opened by Ambassador Károly Dán and Mr. Mikhail Chudakov, IAEA Deputy Director General.

The objective of the roundtable discussion was to provide the opportunity for senior Hungarian government officials and policy makers to interact with senior IAEA experts on nuclear power issues and develop an understanding of the global context of new nuclear power programmes and gave a chance to explore concrete areas of mutual co-operation and sharing of experiences.

It was an opportunity for the IAEA and Hungary to discuss Hungarian expansion plans, with particular emphasis on issues of nuclear power plant financing, work force planning management, licencing and the role of local industry. The issue of potential use of Agency's peer review services in the context of the Paks II project was also a main topic. Mr. Aszódi gave an interview to the Hungarian News Agency about the talks where he said that he envisages further technical consultations with the IAEA this year on this topic.
