As a side event to the CTBTO's "Training the Trainers" seminar, the Hungarian Permanent Mission held a Panel Discussion on Civil and Scientific Applications of the CTBT Verification Technologies. Among the presenters were Dr. Kristóf Kakas from the Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary.
On 11-12 June 2012 the Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS) of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban-Treaty Organization (CTBTO) held a seminar entitled “Engaging the Experts, Training the Trainers: A Seminar on CTBT Education in the 21st Century” for participants arriving from a dozen of countries from various universities and research institutes as well as from international organizations and UN institutes like the IAEA, UNODC, OPCW, UNIDIR and UNODA.
As part of this event a briefing was organized at the premises of the Permanent Mission of Hungary on the civil and scientific applications of the CTBT Verification Regime followed by a buffet dinner. The briefing followed up on the round-table discussion held in the same subject last year at the Permanent Mission of Hungary as a side event of the CTBTO Science and Technology Conference and it was the first element of an ambitious education and training program launched in 2010 by the PTS called „Capacity Development Inititaive”. At this year’s briefing the greeting by Balázs Csuday, Ambassador and Permanent Representative was followed by the introduction of the Executive Secretary Tibor Tóth. The closing presentation was delivered by Mr. Kristóf Kakas from the Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary.
