IFE14 is an Integrated Field Exercise to simulate an almost entire on-site inspection (OSI) in Jordan from 3 November to 9 December 2014 organized by the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO).
“The Integrated Field Exercise 2014 in Jordan will prove to the world that CTBT on-site inspections are a viable deterrent against would-be nuclear testers. With a range of new techniques never used before in an on-site inspection context, IFE14 will take our capabilities to a new level.” – CTBTO Executive Secretary Lassina Zerbo. Today, on 3 November 2014, the CTBTO is starting the Integrated Field Exercise 2014 (IFE14) with launch-phase activities in Vienna. The Jordan segment with field activities will run from 7 November to 9 December. The exercise will simulate an almost entire on-site inspection (OSI) in Jordan’s Dead Sea area. During IFE14 the inspection team will conduct a meticulous search of a clearly defined inspection area to establish whether or not a nuclear explosion has been conducted. The exercise will be in response to a technically realistic and stimulating but fictional scenario.
This will be the CTBTO’s second full-scale simulation of an on-site inspection after IFE08 in Kazakhstan and the most ambitious, realistic and challenging inspection simulation to date.
Hungary has provided experts and in-kind equipment contribution to aid the successful conduct of the exercise.
