The main decision-making body of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, the Preparatory Commission held its 36th session between June 14 and 15 2011.
The most controversial topic of the debate was the budget proposal prepared for the upcoming Integrated Field Exercise planned for 2014. The Chair of Working Group “A” which deals with administrative and budgetary issues will conduct further consultations with representatives of subscribing states and geographical groups during the summer on this issue. Based on the outcome of these consultations, a revised version of the Initial Draft Budget for 2012 will be issued.
The U.S. delegation at the PrepCom session was headed by Ms. Rose Gottemoeller, Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Arms Control Verification and Compliance of the State Department. The U.S. delegation emphasized that the U.S. Government will continue to work hard on progressing towards the ratification of the Treaty.
