48th Session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS)

Sustainable future use of outer space, possible dangers from asteroids, space debris mitigation and disaster management were key agenda items at the 48th Session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), which took place from 7 to 18 February 2011.

Other topics of discussion included space weather research, recent developments in global navigation satellite systems, the use of geostationary orbit, and matters related to remote sensing of the Earth by satellites, including applications for developing countries.

The Eastern European Group nominated Mr. Előd Both, Director of the Hungarian Space Office, for the post of the Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (STSC) for the 2014-2015 term of office.
